The Loom as Journal: Studies in Time and Texture

The Loom as Journal: Studies in Time and Texture- Since 2016, I've kept a weaving journal—something small and portable that allows me to reflect, experiment, and create on the go. Inspired by Marianne Fairbanks' phone-sized tapestry looms and Sheila Hicks' Weaving as Metaphor, I designed my laser-cut loom, sizing it to match my sketchbook at the local library. I keep it tucked in my bag, pulling it out to weave small sketches whenever I need a moment to reflect or escape the pull of doom-scrolling. The 120 woven studies in this exhibition serve as prototypes for my larger compositions, blending playfulness with technique.

My exhibition, The Loom as Journal: Studies in Texture and Time, brings together my weaving journals and the larger works they inspire. These bigger pieces, created on tapestry and floor looms, carry the same spirit of curiosity, material exploration, and spontaneity while expanding into new scales and textures. Together, they offer an intimate glimpse into my creative process and passion for material play.
